Three strikes and you’re out. That’s the message Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin is sending to her husband, Anthony Weiner, after revelations of a third sexting scandal came to light just hours ago.

As The Daily Mail reports:

Huma Abedin is separating from her husband Anthony Weiner in the wake of his latest sexting scandal.

The Clinton campaign manager released a statement on Monday morning just hours after the New York Post reported that Weiner had been sending lewd texts to another woman behind her back, marking the third time he had been caught in the act in the past five years.

Making matter worse, one of the pictures was of Weiner showcasing his manhood in a pair of boxer briefs while the couple’s four-year-old son Jordan lay asleep next to him in bed.

‘After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband, said Abedin in a statement.

‘Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.

Weiner and Abedin married in July 2010 in a ceremony that was officiated by Bill Clinton and covered in the pages of Vogue, with Abedin getting pregnant with the couple’s first child just a few months later.

The couple was not even a year into their marriage when news broke that Weiner had been sexting women online after he tweeted out a photo of his erect penis that he had meant to privately send to a woman on the social media site.

He resigned from Congress soon after, and in December of that year Abedin gave birth to a Jordan.

In 2013, Weiner decided to run for mayor of New York City and also agreed to be filmed for a documentary about his return to politics.

He announced he would run in late May, but just two months later came allegations that he had continued to sext in the years after he resigned from Congress using the name Carlos Danger.

As Breitbart notes, Abedin previously has repeatedly cited therapy, her Muslim faith, and personal forgiveness to try to put the scandal behind her. However, Weiner continues to embarrass her with revelations of his behavior splashed on the front pages of New York tabloids.

Whereas Hillary Clinton famously played offense as part of her husband’s defense in Bill Clinton’s sex scandals, her top aide is choosing a different path. No doubt Abedin’s announcement that she will leave her husband is, at least in part, an attempt to prevent the scandal from becoming too much of a distraction for the Hillary campaign.

Or, could the announcement today be a brilliant distraction from the unfolding and mounting revelations about Huma’s own shady background???

Regardless, the whole situation begs one other big question, however: with all her experience “wiping” servers and deleting messages with her boss, wouldn’t you have thought Huma might have taught her husband a few of the same tricks?

Weiner did delete his Twitter account this morning, though perhaps that’s a bit like closing the barn door after the cow’s gotten loose.
