Thief Gets Rewarded by This Store for Stealing—& the Reason Why Will Rip Your Heart Wide Open

Security caught him in the act, but he couldn’t BELIEVE what they did next…

A Malaysian grocery chain named Tesco has taken quite an unusual approach in responding to a thief who stole food from their store in Bukit Mertajam.

Security caught the 31-year-old (who wishes to remain unidentified) taking about £5 worth of food, but after the GM discovered why, he opted to not press charges.

The general manager, Radzuan Ma’asan, said the stranger’s situation “touched their hearts.”

When asked why he was stealing, the man replied that he was trying to feed his son.

“I had to quit my job as a contract worker after my wife fell into a coma during a birth complication last week,” he added. “She is still in the Bukit Mertajam hospital.”

The anonymous man was coming back from seeing his wife in the hospital when he came by the Tesco with his hungry two-year-old tagging along. He was not the stealing type, but watching his starving toddler was almost too much for the father to bear. They had been on their feet for an hour because he couldn’t even afford bus fare.

“I went straight to the food section and grabbed some pears, apples and a few bottles of drinks,” he said.

His wife has since come out of her coma, but the baby did not survive due to her health complications. After learning the details of his struggles, Ma’asan simply could not bring himself to take legal action.

“In my 23 years of experience in the retail line, I had never come across thieves who admitted to their crime so easily,” said Ma’asan. “He also told us that he was unable to work as he has to look after his three children, aged two to seven.”

So instead of sending him to jail, he actually offered him a job! Tesco has even given him money up-front to take care of his expenses until he starts the new position.
