Man Sues Costco After Being Fired For Not Doing His Work Because Of His Muslim Beliefs

on

WOW! Religious discrimination has NOTHING to do with this.

When someone applies for a job they usually have an understanding of what that job entails. Costco is a whole foods store that sells everything from food and alcohol to clothing and office supplies. Among these food items is pork. Muslims believe that touching or consuming pork it against their religious beliefs because pork comes from an unclean animal.

Jean Camara is a devout Muslim who applied for a cashier’s assistant position at a Costco in Sunset Park Brooklyn. After being hired, however, he revealed to his manager that he refused to touch either pork or alcohol stating religious reasoning. Having failed to mention this on his application should have been reason enough for termination. Instead, Costco offered him an alternative job as cart wrangler.

Camara was unhappy with this reassignment and claims he was given no explanation for the change in jobs. He tried to request another reassignment but was denied because he had no reason to excuse him from parking lot duty. Apparently, in Camara’s eyes, Costco treated him differently because he was a Muslim and is now suing his former employer for religious discrimination.

Via AWM:

“Just because you have a different belief, that doesn’t give anybody the right to treat you different,” said Camara.

Without hesitation, Camara filed a human rights complaint against the company.

“I think that as the case progresses in the trial we are in now, I think the facts are going to come out and they’re going to speak for themselves,” said Chauncey Henry, Camara’s attorney.

16 days after he told his manager about his restriction, he was fired for insubordinate conduct.

“We all share different beliefs so we all should be treated equally no matter what belief we have,” Camara said.

“It’s not OK to discriminate against someone for their religion. It isn’t OK. It isn’t OK to treat them differently others because of what they believe in. I think that everyone is entitled to the same treatment. I think that’s what this case is about,” Henry said.

WTF! Is this guy insane? Religious belief doesn’t mean you can get a job and not do it and still think you should be employed.

You asked for preferential treatment. You received it. Then you sue? Listen, you baited management into a no win situation. They graciously allowed you to remain employed even after you fraudulently hid your restrictions from the application. They should’ve fired you on the spot. Let’s just hope you don’t get fined for filing a frivolous lawsuit!

He doesn’t want to be treated differently than anybody else? He wants to be treated differently because he’s a Muslim! He was treated as anyone else…. didn’t do his job, got fired just like anyone else that refuses to do their job. However, he probably will have some better luck in the unemployment line, they’re handing out free cash there to all who just show up. I don’t think he’ll find any pork there, unless horror of horrors, someone is carrying a concealed ham sandwich.

Chauncey Henry is a criminal, not a real attorney….totally ignoring the extreme facts that Camara lied, then tried to imPose his own religious demands against the organization: “After being hired, however, he revealed to his manager that he refused to touch either pork or alcohol stating religious reasoning. Having failed to mention this on his application should have been reason enough for termination.”

I agree 100%. If it wasn’t mentioned on his application then he should be dismissed. I sure would like to be in on an award if he got one. I’d give him 100 pounds of free Bacon and Pork!

All the applications that I have read ask if there are accommodations needed for the job. If he is a practicing Muslim, did he require time to pray while at work?

Just what exactly does this idiot want to do at his job? He doesn’t want to work as a cashier because he can’t touch pork or alcohol, he doesn’t want to work outside gathering buggies. Sounds like he wants the manager’s position . Lied on his application to start with, he’s lucky they didn’t terminate him .

I think he wants to be a cashier BUT only for other Muslim shoppers. Bet he would have been OK with Costco telling customers that if they were buying pork or alcohol they had to check out via someone else’s lane, making all of them accommodate him.

When will businesses and when will we learn? A devout muslin should never be in our America, they cannot follow our constitution. Islam is a political and economic Cult bases upon the use of violence. It is entirely un American.

It isn’t OK to lie on your application, whiner! If I buy a pork loin, in the UNITED STATES, and have to wait in line because the cashier refuses to check me out, how many more times do you think I will shop at Costco? And if everyone who shops there does the same, then Costco is forced to close and you have NO JOB ANYWAY. What part of capitalism do you NOT UNDERSTAND? Perhaps you should go to a Muslim country that adheres to all of MUSLIM rules and there will be no altercations. If you choose to remain here, then GET WITH THE PROGRAM. IF YOUR RELIGION PROHIBITS YOU HANDLING PORK OR ALCOHOL, TAKE A JOB THAT DOESN’T HAND EITHER ONE. DUH!!!!

It’s equal rights , not extra rights . Costco attempted to accomadate his wishes , however he felt unsatistfied with the option. Therefore , Costco is within their rights to dismiss his employment , he was unwilling to accept another position without a reduction in pay. He will never win his lawsuit in the courts, nor should he as he was not mistreated.

What the heck does he expect from Costco? After he said he wouldn’t check out people, they gave him a different job. What did he want? I don’t understand these people who think they are entitled to more than everyone else. I think Costco did more than they needed to, to provide him with a job.
