VIA| McKeesport, Pennsylvania is short one cop today after Melissa Adamson posted a selfie of herself on the social network app, Snapchat. It wasn’t the picture that got her fired, but rather the caption.

It read, “I am the law, ni–a!”

So that was not the brightest thing ol’Melissa has ever done.

Here’s a picture of the Snapchat:

Here’s more from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

McKeesport Mayor Mike Cherepko posted a statement today on the city’s Facebook page explaining that the white officer, identified as Melissa Adamson, was a probationary employee in training and had only been hired as a part-time officer a few weeks ago.

The image, which was being passed along on social media, was a selfie showing Ms. Adamson in uniform with the statement “’m the law today,” followed by a racial slur.

“This post displays a degree of conduct and character that is far different from what I would expect from an officer in this city,” Mr. Cherepko wrote. “It is absolutely unacceptable. Without hesitation, my office and the police chief’s office immediately concluded that this officer’s actions will not be tolerated in the City of McKeesport. She has been relieved of her duties, and her employment has been terminated.”

Now, some have pointed out that in many communities, that word has become less of a slur and can be used among friends. Even so, it was terrible judgment by this officer to post such a message when it might cause people in the community to mistrust the police.

Here’s what Melissa said about the story to a local news station:
