9-Year-Old Constructs Tiny Homes for the Homeless

Some people in the world are just born with a natural inclination towards helping others that are in need.  It’s stronger in some of us than it is others, but I’d like to think that everyone has at least a little bit of empathy and compassion within them.  It might not be an every-day thing, helping others who are in need, but even the smallest random acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Just ask Hailey Fort, the nine-year-old girl from Bremerton, Washington, who has strived to help those less fortunate than herself since she was just five years old, when she began donating food to the homeless and to local food banks.

Hailey’s latest project to help others?  Building 12 mobile sleeping shelters for the homeless people of her community.

The shelters that Hailey builds are 8 x 4 ft. in dimension and include a locking front door, windows, and even insulation that has been recycled from old used jeans.  She has taken on this project mostly by herself, saying “it just doesn’t seem right that there are homeless people. I think everyone should have a place to live.”
